Join us in the morning session of the conference to hear from DMT pioneers in Hong Kong - Prof. Rainbow Ho and Ms Candy Lo - who will delve into the foundational theories and cutting-edge research of dance movement therapy. This is a unique opportunity to explore how movement can enhance mental health, foster healing, and support interdisciplinary practices.

Prof. Rainbow Ho

Keynote Speaker
Founder & Honorary Advisor of HKDMTA
B.Sc., M.Phil (BMedSci), PhD, BC-DMT, AThR, REAT, RSMT, CGP, CMA,SAC

Prof. Rainbow T. H. Ho is a Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). She is also the Director of the Centre on Behavioral Health (CBH) and the Program Director of the Master of Social Sciences (Behavioral Health) and Master of Expressive Arts Therapy. Prof. Ho’s impressive academic career includes degrees in Biology, Anatomy, Social Work, and Social Administration, as well as professional diplomas and credentials in performing arts, expressive arts therapy, dance movement therapy, somatic movement therapy, movement analysis, group psychotherapy, and addiction counseling.
   
Prof. Ho’s world-leading research on creative and expressive arts therapy, psychophysiology, and mind-body practices for healthy and clinical populations has earned her numerous research grants and publications in refereed academic journals, scholarly books, and encyclopedias. In addition to her academic work, Prof. Ho is involved in many community projects, working with art museums, community centers, government, and non-government organizations to promote arts and holistic health practices for the community’s well-being.
   
Prof. Ho has received many awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award and Research Award from the American Dance Therapy Association, the Research and Development Award from Australia, New Zealand, and Asia Arts Therapy Association, and the Outstanding Teaching Award, Social Sciences Outstanding Research Output Award, Knowledge Exchange Award, and Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award from the University of Hong Kong.
   
In 2023, Prof. Ho joined the WHO Jameel Arts and Health Lab and the International Creative Arts Therapy Research Alliance as a steering committee member and researcher.

盧幸賢女士
Ms. Candy Lo

Keynote Speaker
Honorary Advisor of HKDMTA
MA, NCC, BC-DMT, RDT/BCT, CCLS, CT

Candy is a US National Certified Counselor,  US Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, US Registered Drama Therapist/Board Certified Trainer, Certified Child Life Specialist. She is certified in Thanatology: Death, Dying, and Bereavement.

After a successful career as a Musical Theatre performer, Candy gradated from Antioch University New England with a MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling in 2012. Candy did her counselling  internship at the Cheshire County Alternative Sentencing Program and Mental Health Court, serving misdemeanour offenders suffering from mental health and/or substance abuse issues, followed by a Dance/Movement Therapy internship at Children’s Hospital Los Angels, in addition to a Child Life internship at Hackensack Medical Centre, serving paediatric patients and their families.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, Candy started her private practice, Piece of Sky-Creative Arts Therapy and Counseling working with adults who are interested in exploring different options in life and partnered with with different Non-Governmental Organizations to provide service to a wide range of clients. Candy was hired by the Children’s Cancer Foundation as a Child Life Specialist and Dance/Movement Therapist, providing service to paediatric patients and their families at 5 different local hospitals (Prince of Wales Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital , Queen Elizabeth Hospital, United Christian Hospital and Princess of Margaret Hospital) . Candy worked as a contractor and provided group Dance/Movement Therapy service to adult cancer patients at the Patient Resource Centre of Prince of Wales Hospital, Queen Elizebeth Hospital and Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

In terms of professional contribution, Candy co-founded the Hong Kong Dance/Movement Therapy Association (past president and current honorary advisor)  and Hong Kong Child Life Association (current president) and served  as secretary of Hong Kong Association for Drama Therapists. Internationally, Candy served as a member of the American Dance Therapy Association's Standards and Ethics Committee, BC-DMT task force and co led the Asian and Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Affinity Group.

​Teaching has been another passion of Candy's, she has been teaching at the University of Hong Kong’s Masters in Expressive Arts Program since 2014 while she was teaching the Performance Art module of the Medical Humanities curriculum (2014-2018, 2020-2021) created by The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC)  at the School of Medicine. Candy is an Affiliate Faculty and Senior Lecturer at Antioch University New England (Dance/Movement Therapy: Couple & Family Therapy Program) and Antioch Santa Barbara (MA in Clinical Psychology (Somatic concentration)) and Adjunct Faculty at Lesley University (Expressive Therapies Program) . As a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist and Board Certified Trainer in Drama Therapy, Candy is eligible to provide clinical supervision to Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy students and therapists.

​Candy lived in Hong Kong, Belgium, UK and the US .Candy started the US branch of Piece of Sky in 2023; providing Chid Life and Creative Arts Coaching services. She is currently splitting her time between Hong Kong and the US. 
Candy is fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and simple Flemish and baby sign (based on American Sign Language) .

Dr. Ching Choi Lam

Opening Guest Speaker

Dr Lam is a specialist in paediatric and community medicine and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service.

With his extensive knowledge of local public health policies and services, Dr Lam has sat on multiple statutory and advisory bodies. He is a non-official member of the Executive Council of the HKSAR Government. He also serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health, the Council for Carbon Neutrality & Sustainable Development, the Steering Committee on Review of Manpower for Healthcare Services in Residential Care Homes, the Healthcare & Wellness Training Board of the Vocational Training Council, the Industry Training Advisory Committee of Elderly Care Service and the Independent Commission Against Corruption Complaints Committee.

He is also a member of the Green Technology & Finance Development Committee, Advisory Panel on Silver Economy as well as the Supervisory Board and Nominating Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Society to provide advice to the government on various policies.

Dr Lam was honoured by the HKSAR Government with the Justice of Peace in 2003 and Silver Bauhinia Star in 2019. In 2018, apart from receiving Honorary Fellowship from Lingnan University, he also received the Ageing Asia Global Ageing Influencer Award (Special Recognitions) in recognition of his devotion to public services and his influence on policy-making for the global ageing trend.
